    1987 m20b25 swap questions

    I have a 1986, 325es (eta). went ahead and purchased a 1987 m20b25 for more go-fast glory.

i was first curious, but then found out that the early style engine, could retain the early radiator/plumbiing system in my ETA (good news) so coolings no issue.

a few months back planning to do our infamous 2.7i swap, and got an "i" wiring harness from a junkyard. this car must have been 88+.

because now, i look at the harness that came with the engine, and they are completely different. first thing i noticed is the later harness, had an idditional plug for what seems to be the injector harness (is this seperate?)

the earlier 87 injector wires are directly wired right into the engine harness. no twisty plug.

i also notice the 02 sensor plugs differ. it appears the 87 is the same style as my eta one. (3 wire, being my o2 is new, are they compatible?)

now, i have a problem, because the harness plug that mates to the chassis harness (c101???? is this what its called?)(near the fusebox in a bracket)...
THiS plug has been cut clean off. and im curious if i can chop the plug from the later harness and solder them wires up to get it to work.
provided i could (hypthetically) would i have the ability to just plug those plugs up and fire her up?

i notice in some informing threads that there are re-wiring issues, but they mainly seem to pertain to only the later "i" engines and harnesses..now, as there isnt much information on this topic, i want to figure out the most i can that will help me and any others running into these compatibilty issues and rewrite a sticky worthy thread on the topic.

i also wish that any other issues that may or should be noted be mentioned as well, being these are the only ones ive looked into.
Working...
