    Idle problems . Cold start

    Ok so heres the prob.
When the engines cold and i start up the car the idle goes up 1-2k then down to the point when its about to turn off, back up again, down, up, then it dies lol. but when i put in gas (even just a little) it wont die on me. Could it be the ICV? Or either any hoses connected? The fuel pump isnt the problem because i replaced it 1-2 months ago. Any help with be appreciated.

You should try the "stomp test" it might be your O2 sensor.

did you check for any vacuum leaks? It's a very common and may be hard to find. Spray carb cleaner on the rubber hoses with the car running and see if idle changes. Or do a smoke test.

i'm having a similar problem with my '89 325ix. i did the stomp test and it turned out to be the coolant sensor (blue top). my car would idle high and sort've stall out if i pushed the gas. after the car was warm i could remove the sensor and she'd idle fine. i wasn't sure if i could ride around like that so my car has been sitting in my driveway for the past couple of days for the sensor to come in.

try the stomp test again. it took me a few time to finally figure it out. you don't have to really stomp on the pedal. just make sure you're pushing the pedal all the way down.
