cold idle issues in the 85'e

So when i first start the car in the morning the car sounds like it's a cammed out 350. it starts perfectly fineish for a 25 year old car. Its just when its cold and idling It idles around 5 or 600 and then kinda revs up to 1200 for a second then goes back to like 500 to 700 hundred. I let it sit there for a second to warm up then it idles around 7 to 800 and i'm good to go.

I have a 85 325e. i tried cleaning the MAF and didn't really help. I wanna say the cold start may be malfunctioning but not 100% sure. Is there any type of cleaner i could run through it to possibly just clean it out right quick? Whats the best way to tell if my air pump is working right away or at all for that matter?

but yea, i dunno and need some helps;)

What about the coolant temp sensor? Don't ETA's have those as well? If it only occurs when its cold, and goes away once warmed up, the coolant temp sensor could be bad, causing the DME to constantly try to adjust the A/F.

My first suspicion, when presented with a cold start problem, is intake leaks. They have a greater affect during a cold start. The best diagnostic is to find a shop that can run a smoke test on the intake. It makes no sense to consider the other possible causes until intake leaks can be ruled out.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.
