    2.7i build

    hey fellas,

started my 2.7i sway today. I been picking up parts here and there for my build. I have:

    "I" items:
-885 head with all neused internal
    -intake/injectors (blue)
    -crank sensor
    -173 ecu
    -89 i harness
    -cap/rotor/wires w/pickup
    -AFM (need)

everything else on the bottom end is stock "E".

when i removed the "E" ecu there was also a (green) label box inside the glove box with the ecu, what is this box for? I notice that my E harness has a connection for the green box, but the "I" harness does not. Everything is cleaned/degreased and i will start the reassembly tomorrow. Any advice or pointer from the expert, please chime in.

that's an idle speed computer. If you're using Motronic 1.1 or 1.3, you don't need it

ok, i am 90% complete with the swap but now im in a little bit of a pickle.

i have an 86 eta and 89 "i" harness, swapped everything and now the car won't crank. wtf........urgggggg

test to see if power is going to the starter (yes)...i also changed out all 3 main relay (driver side next to abs unit) with know good relay and still no crank. I have interior light, check light flashes, radio work (aftermarket) all the lights on the dash comes on, but NO CRANK. I even banged on the starter, no help.

What i did, with key in ignition, i disconnected the DME and i still have all lights on. any help is greatly appreciated.

So you do have main power and ground at the starter, but no crank signal?

Was the car an automatic at some point?

this car is the original 5 speed. I have an "i" cps installed also.

when i turn the key, i get nothing, no crank. I do hear the icv kicking in.

not yet, do you have a link?

could it be a dead starter? i do get 12v to the solenoid and i get power to the dme wiring (inside glovebox). Also, on the "i" harness, there is a single green/black wire and thicker single yellow/black wire, is this the ground? I tried grounding both wire to the body, but no luck.

hooboy....the black/yellow wire is the actual starter wire.

Go replace fuse 10 and test that black/yellow. It should go live on crank.

The green black is the unloader relays: it needs ground when the car is running, and that comes from the starter.

Go to www.wedophones.com. Look for MANUALS, then AUTOMOTIVE.

fuse #10 is good, i have an E starter, does it matter? I looked at the diagram and the positive run to ignition switch and a relay? Where is the starter relay?

I have 2 (thick black and thick red) that is connected to the starter post. Yellow/black connects to the spade terminal, and green/black is grounded to car body. When i turn the key to start i get 12v to the yellow/black, but no start. bad starter? Thanks Stereo...

i found my problem. The starter wire was brittle inside the harness and broke loose. I was not getting continuity on that wire at all. Hope this help the next guy. Thanks Stereoinstaller for looking out. Hit me up when your in the Maryland area, i'll buy you a drink.
