    I bought a 325 e with 0 compression....

    in the no.3 cylinder.

Here's the background on the car and it's problems:

    I have checked the compression and get the following psi readings cyl 1-6 = 178, 182, 5 (yes 5), 185, 178, 180
I tried squirting 2mL of motor oil in no.3 cyl and the reading went up to 15.

The car smokes (blue) slightly when cold in the morning & at idle but nothing too noticeable when hot, again mainly at idle & cruise. Has a very bad stumble under all driving conditions and has really really weak power to match.
The ONLY time the engine seems to smoothen out is when you are accelerating and reach the upper rpm range - then the stumble seems to slowly vanish.

I was thinking about running a can of Seafoam through the intake & oil to see if that frees anything up. On top of that I will check the valve lash that everything is in spec and don't have an open valve. Did both with no difference.

Can anyone narrow down what would be the exact problem? Any comments or suggestions are welcome.

Do a leakdown test, although you did recover a bit of compression with the oil trick my bet is still a burnt or stuck/bent exhaust valve. The other option (a busted or stuck ring) is a total rebuild.

Just curious why you mention a defective exhaust valve as opposed to an intake valve?

The car has a rhythmic ticking which is quite a bit louder than it should be - if it helps in your diagnosis. This is taking into account that these are clattery engines to begin with.

Did a compressed air leakage test in cyl#3 via the spark plug hole this morning to confirm where I am loosing compression. All valves were closed - as soon as the cylinder was pressurized you could hear the hissing from leakage. The oil dipstick/cyl head oil drain holes, cooling system, and throttle body were all quiet. But when I put my hand over the tailpipe you could hear & feel the air rushing out.

This confirms that there is massive leakage from the exhaust valve which makes sense - Mr. Visser was correct.
