"check engine" light come on when the car idles

Hi there

Just a quick question...
Sometimes (not all the times) my Check Engine light comes on when the car idles.. when i press the gas pedal and go up to like 1000-1200 rpm it goes away..
it doesnt happen all the times, and when it does its only when the car idles..

does anyone have an idea what is that caused by?

a friend of mine told me it might be a o2 sensor, but i decided to ask before i go and buy one

i cant tell if theres any difference in performance because its been like that since i got it... (3 months ago)

You have to pull the codes from the DME to be certain, but that sounds like a CEL from a Lambda fault. Which can be caused by a aged O2 sensor, intake leaks, or a combination of those. If the O2 sensor has 100k on it, it is due (or overdue) for replacement. Replace the sensor and have a smoke test run on the intake to find the leaks.

what o2 sensor would you recommend?
I dont think i want to spend over a $100 on a OEM... so i was wondering what are my alternatives?

i replaced the o2 sensor but i still get check engine when the car idles..

Has the intake been smoke tested?

Small vacuum leak. I had the same problem and it turned out to be a little vacuum cap on the line coming from the intake to the brake booster.
