    Jesus nutz help please.

Sooo......I'm trying to get the crank nut off (jesus nut) and it's being a royal PITA. M20B27 super eta BTW. Any suggestions on how to get this out? Is it reverse thread (the one on my M30's isnt :p)?

We've tried an air wrench, breaker bar, gratuitous amounts of WD-40, etc.

Any hints or whatever from you M20 gurus would be appreciated! TIA!

The installation torque on that is 300ft-lbs. It will take well north of that to break it free. A heavy duty 3/4" impact wrench will work as will a locking tool and a 4-6' 3/4 drive breaker bar (or a standard 3/4" drive breaker bar and cheater).

The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

If you don't mind me saying so, you don't need to remove it to replace the timing belt.

now, if you're doing the front cranks seal, then yes...

We're rebuilding the motor. It's a heavy duty e2i swap stroker-ish monster-ish sorta thing. Replacing the main bearings, etc....

Anywho, we got it off. Tried the impact gun, breaker bar, etc. Ended up polishing it clean with an angle grinder wire wheel and wd-40'd it all up. Then got the longest box end that fit that we had and dropped a sledge hammer on it 4 or 5 times. Came right off.

Also, I might mention the engine was already less the pistons and everything else, so we placed a block of wood between the counterweights on the crank and the block. Held it steady.

Also stacked wood under the block to eliminate vertical movement while we hammered.

Worked like a charm....we then lost the bolt....Jesus...

Anywho, thanks for the input! Maybe this will help someone else who picked up an engine with a seized crank bolt.
