New Starter Spins When Battery Reconnected

Having some trouble with a rebuilt starter just installed in my 1987 325e. It looks a little different than the old OEM starter and it didn't come with any instructions.

As soon as the negative battery terminal is reconnected the starter begins to spin. This is without the key in the ignition.

This is how I have it hooked up if someone could verify the wiring is correct or not. I am not cure where that little black and yellow wire goes exactly.

Should both the large black and red wires be attached to the stud on the right?

Yeah, big black and red wire go together on the right terminal. Black/yellow looks like it's right. Whether it's a spade or a ring connector the black/yellow is on the bottom.

I have this same problem. I dont have that black/yellow connector though.. I have to wires.. one from the harness and the other from the battery. weird.

Okay so I got it figured out, like said above :

The two largest wires (black and red) go to the larger stud on the right. The small black and yellow wire goes to the one of the terminals on the bottom.

The large black wire is the primary power connection from the battery. The red wire is the output of the alternator. And the smallest wire is the solenoid control signal from the ignition switch.

Much better now, the starter no longer spins when reconnecting the battery and the car starts just fine.

Congratulations. I envy you. I wish mine was as simple as that
