1987 325i cabrio 4th gear problems...

I have an 87 E30 and the car shifts fine throough all gears except from 3rd to 4th or 5th back to 4th(4th just doesn't wanna work).

I have been skipping it and just going to 5th or back to 3rd. Does anyone know how I can solve the problem ? I have gotten it into 4th a couple of times so it is possible for 4th to work. I have only had teh car for a about a week.

sounds like the synchros for 4th are shot. best solution is a new tranny.

does it move into 4th easier when the motor is off?? if so, bad synchros for sure
