    Engine Fluttering at 3000 RPMs

    Hello out there.

I just bought myself a '88 325 under the impression that I would be getting a SETA. Now, I'm not sure if it really is one yet, but that isn't the issue I want to discuss.

After driving it a day after I'd bought it, I noticed that the engine (I think) would make a fluttering sound whenever I'd hit about 3000 rpms. It drives fine, and doesn't do anything strange at that point, but because I don't want to screw up my new automobile I've kept my shifting at 2800.

Does anyone know what the issue is, and can anyone provide a solution?
    Thanks in advance.

maybe desrcibe the sound a little more?

and why don't you think its a super-eta? unless the engine has been swapped, that what a 88 325 comes with

I would start with a compression test and then an inspection of the rockers...maybe check to see if the valves are loose.

Yeah, I was afraid someone might've swapped the engine out and ripped me off with some 325e that's falling apart.

The sound doesn't build up, but it starts as soon as I hit 3000 and keeps going until I shift. Lately I haven't heard it, so I'm not sure what the deal is.

Thanks for the tip, I'll try to get on it as soon as I have enough cash to check.
