    325e - 325i engine swap.

Wondering how difficult it would be to drop in a 1988 325i engine into a 1984 325e body.

I did a quick search and the I read that it is not a simple drop in. Anybody have any experience with this swap?

    Thanks.

It can be done. In addition to the engine you'll need the engine harness, DME, and AFM from a 325i/is. And there will be modifications that will have to be done to wiring to mate up the later engine to the earlier car.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

So if I have the whole 325i car and a 325e car, it should be relatively easy? I say this, because I have a 325i car with front damage which affects grill installation. I've thought about hammer fixing it or getting it done professionally, but I could just as easily obtain a second 325e with a non running engine.

Obviously didn't search too hard, cause there was a post about it not 10 threads down from this one.

OH... wow... I feel like a total retard. I've been broad searching "325e" and "325i". Not the engines. Color me retarded.

The biggest issue is you have a square c101 plug and the "i" engine has a round c101 plug. Your gonna have some wiring ahead of you. Andys swap is going to be easier because for him its just a matter of hooking the tach and econometer up in the glovebox, his 86 e30 already has a round c101 plug.

Can you please explain this plug? I did the swap about 8 months ago and my tach hasnt worked but the engine funs fine.
