Trying to sort out all this messy piston madness...

So after a moderately confusing phone call to Bavarian Auto Recycling, I am officially stumped on this piston. I gave the guy all the numbers i could find on the piston. He then tells me that they are oversized, they don't usually have them in stock, and the only place i will find them is at the dealer. But the confusing part is the one i took out appears to have 83.98 stamped right in the top. If I'm not mistaken that's a standard piston size. I got the camera out and took some pictures in hopes that someone can help me make sense of this madness.

Markings on the inside (84v137 with a + over the seven on the left, MAHLE on the right)


I think I'm gonna order the 83.98 piston on PelicanParts, but I will be calling them to clear up a few questions i have.

Any thoughts or ideas, oh e30 gods?

what exactly is your question? trying to replace that piston and not sure which to get? if it says 83.98, it probably is. measure it to be sure. are your other pistons the same?
