    Slow Starter

    Hey all,

    '88 325is here.

Lately my starter seems like it has gone kaput. It's been starting really slowly, like it's struggling. Then this morning, I go to start it and it barely starts. The RPM gauge jumps around some. However, the car will run just fine.

I thought it might have been a dying battery and the alternator is just keeping things going. Do you guys think my starter might be on the fritz?

    Best,

    Pete

Sounds more like the battery to me. How old is it? Check the V

check battery, if that checks out ok, then look at start connections. If none appear dirty, take them off clean the connections, then try again. If still no fix, get a DMM and start looking for high resistance in your starter wires.

And check the connections at the battery as well as the engine to frame ground strap.

Many auto parts houses will test your battery and alternator for free.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Thanks, fellas, I'm thinking it's the battery, as well. Mainly because my starter is less than 10 years old. Plus, the battery is from Autozone.

I'll go have them give it a test later on today (if I get a chance).

Fixed it. It was my battery.
