    Considering building a 2.7i

So my Eta's motor is getting to where it's going to be time for a rebuild soon. I'm thinking either just dropping in another eta or doing a 2.7i.

I have an 87 325 es with the 885 head.

My first question really is, is there a way to build a 2.7i but still use eta ecu and harness? Swapping a cluster wouldn't bother me but I really hate wiring so I don't really want to redo wiring (reason for not swapping a 2.5 in).

Also this will be a dd so I'm not looking for big numbers or anything.. Just thought it might give me a little more fun lol

yup from what i understand you need the harness to put the 173 dme/ecu .. and run it w/ that dme

      So a 173 dme is off a 2.5? Nm

What is involved in swapping out the dme's?

Hey man, this isn't "electrical" work, it is just swapping a harness. Unplug one, remove, then reinstall another. Relax, this ain't gonna hurt a bit.

The DME is held in by bolts and unplugs. Once you get all the plastic shrouding off, it should not take more than 2 minutes with normal DIY skills.

Do not panic man, this really is easy stuff.

Alright very cool lol. So the actual harness is ok but the dme needs swapped out. Do u gave to swap clusters or do I still use an eta cluster?

No, you will need to swap every goddamn millimeter of wire, ALL of it, it is just easier than you think.

On the other hand, I did just explain that...don't be making me think you ain't all that bright, I do not help retards.

I'm not retarded lol, this is just my first "swap" even though it's not a complete swap. Usually when I pull a motor the same thing goes back in. So really I'll pull the eta harness and dme and put in the harness and 173 dme and be good. I'm good along as I don't have to do splicing or any crap like that. If so I'll just toss another eta in it.

That and I want to make sure I do everything right the first time. So I like to have as much info as I can get.

So you are pulling the motor anyway, right? Just leave the harness on it, swap them when it is on an engine stand!

Actually the plan is to build a motor while still driving this one. I know a couple guys local that seem to always have e30 parts. I'm curious, if I somehow located a super eta motor what would be the benefits of that over just a normal eta motor like in my 87?

Also is this an accurate list on what I'll need?

                  325i intake manifold
                  325i throttle body
325i vacuum line & check valve
                  325i air flow meter
325i 3.0 bar fuel pressure regulator
                  325i throttle position sensor
                  325i camshaft
                  325i inner cable springs
                  325i 173 dme
                  325i injectors

Is there anything missing, or maybe I don't need or there is something better than the 325i part?

So if you are building a whole new motor it is even easier.

The harness stays on the motor when you pull it.

Build your new motor: SETA bottom and 885/B25 top with Motronic 1.3 electronics, "stroker" chip and a set of 17.5lb injectors and drop it in.

What's the chip usually run (price wise)? Also on the injectors are those after market or just out of something else?

Also thanks stereo a ton for all the help
