which fuel pump do i have?

dunno if this would be the right forum to post in but i figured you guys would know either way. Is this an early or late fuel pump? Also if i've got an 88' 325is will it matter if i use it if it is an early pump?

that's not an early pump, early pump (lift) is smaller and is used on cars with two pumps.

that looks like a late model m20 pump, late model 318i/s pump housing is different having a return line.

awesome thanks for the info. do u kno of any good diy fuel pump replacement posts? i found one but all the picture links are bad. I can figure it out without one its just good to have guide lines, as this would be my first time replacing one.

if you are replacing it with the same pump and not aftermarket, it's straight forward and you can't screw it up. i would replace the old o-ring and gasket on the cover under the back seat if they are old and inspect the fuel hose(s).
