intake manifold

I am trying to remove my intake manifold on my 1986 325es. I followed the manual so everything is disconnected. But under the intake manifold in a about the center of it, there is a long black bar that goes down into what could be the oilpan, or crankcase (basically connects down to the bottum of the block). How do i disconnect this? What is it?

pull down on it. oil return and breather tube from the head.
