I had a Victor-Reinz head gasket fail on my M20 in the same manner as your describing your problems to be occurring. It was spontaneous, but the problem provoked itself rapidly through the course of one day until it failed. Keep an eye on your coolant level. Something may have gone awry through the course of putting your new head gasket on.
I was reading in a popular mechanics mag about some catalyst you can add to your overflow tank, it changes color with the presence of exhaust fumes. I'm sure you can find this crap at your local auto parts store. If your still having issues, it would be a cost effective way to figure out if you've got a bigger problem on your hands.
dumb overheating AGAIN

that may just be your gauge cluster spasing out, and not real temp fluctuationsLeave a comment:

So check this out, temp gauge twitching. I took a video.
I don't know what it means, it's happening just on idle.
It happens very clearly at :06-:09, then again at :48-:51.
What's the deal?Leave a comment:

Fan clutch seems fine actually.
According to the Bentley you can't test it while its cold outside, which in my case its 25*F, so I heated up the fan clutch to 70* and spun it around and it seemed fine, a good amount of resistance.Leave a comment:

test you fan clutch by sticking a rolled up magazine and hitting the fan, if it easily stops, thats the culprit. Otherwise try bleeding you systemLeave a comment:

I cleaned out my radiator..for a new radiator it had a lot of black gunk in it.
checked my hoses, they seemed good
rebled, bled, and bled again
now it flickers between this position

and the middle, on idle. It'll get to that position, and within 3 or so seconds it'll go back to halfway, 5 seconds passes and it goes back to that position.
I guess I'm ok with it, it was a lot worse before.Leave a comment:

you take off the overflow cap and blow into it with the bleader open.Leave a comment:

:neutral:i suggest taking one of a e28 because it spins with the engine instead of a switch to tell it when to turn on. I put one in when my fan clutch died. The car wont go over a little over 1/4 of the way on the temp gauge. It puts more strain on the engine but it makes it sound more aggressive if your standing in front of the car.
Cold engine= running rich= running poopy= shitty gas mileage= unhealthyLeave a comment:

Just take it out and spray a hose though the fins and also though the inlet AND the outlet holes, it might help.Leave a comment:
