You didn't say i or eta, but I have a Dinan eta chip, and I just put the stock chip back in after about 18 months just to see if the Dinan really had made a difference. It did, and it's probably going back in after a few tanks to properly check fuel economy.
With the Dinan, there's not a huge difference (if any) in the lower end, although idle seemed to be smoother with it. Where the Dinan really had an effect was over about 3,000 rpm. The "wall" the engine seems to hit at that point with the stock chip is gone. Instead, it actually seems to take off after 3k, like it's coming on the cam. I drive like a grandpa, but the engine didn't seem to strain to reach the stock redline with the Dinan chip, while with the stock chip it seems like I'm beating on it to get to 4k.
I don't have a good fuel economy comparison, as I first installed the Dinan right at the time I changed my commute--so it wasn't apples to apples. I think there was a slight decrease due to playing at higher revs more, but probably not enough to offset the increased driveability. As I mentioned, I'm running a few tanks on the stock chip now to get a somewhat more scientific comparison.
Oh, and I almost never ran 91 octane in it. 89 was fine in the summers (I listened carefully for pinging and never heard any), and I even ran 87 in the winter without problems. I live in Pennsylvania, though, so in warmer climates you may need the higher octane gas.
