    Brake booster valve

Anyone know what will happen if I drive with out a brake booster vaccum check valve? Of course I placed a piece of hose in its place, so the booster still gets vaccum.

I know having a check valve is ideal, but mine developed a nasty crack (and vaccum leak!). I cut it out and patched in a piece of 1/2 in fuel line for now. I intend to find a new one and replace it ASAP, just wanted to make sure the car will be safe to drive for a week or so.

It idles fine and I have power brakes

You will have reduced or no boost if you have to use the brakes while the engine is running well above idle. I wouldn't chance it. You can probably find a one way valve meant for some other vehicle at an auto parts hose that will work. Or you might be able to repair the valve with JB Weld.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.
