    Starter going bad?

Have a '90 325i. Last few times I started it it made a sorta grinding noise and didn't turn over the first time I turned the key; backed the key out and turned it again and it started fine, its done this maybe 3 or 4 times now. Starter going bad?

sounds like the windings have some dead spots.(Hard to start hot)
    or
The starter gear is having trouble engaging the flywheel ring gear.
    or
The starter circuit is losing voltage/connectivity.

Starter solenoid is probably toast. Get yours rebuilt or find one that is in good working condition.
