another question for ya. my two cars are really alot different than i thought. just simple things like plugs little boxes with wires going to them and such. im guessing that the engine wiring harness that runs to the computer indeed runs the engine. the round plug on the firewall is for the?? gauges and such? what controls the auto tranny? im debating on swaping whole car harness's due to the difference in plugs and all the differences? any opionon on that? i kinda just jumped into this project not knowing what i was getting into bentley manual will be ordered tonight just trying to get a second opinion upon swaping all the wiring just worried about the auto to manual ordeal.

The easiest thing to do if you are swapping motors is to swap harnesses. Otherwise you are asking for a headache. The e harness and i harness should both plug into the round connector allowing you to just swap the engine compartment harness. I suggest swapping the instrument cluster aswell, it is a direct plug and play swap.

If you are putting the I engine into the 87 e you will need and 87 I or Is wiring harness so that your windows and gauges will work correctly.1988 E30 335i - 1987 E30 327i - 1987 E30 327iS Pickup - 1973 2002 Project

Shant..thats what im worried about. i understand the whole swap the engine, engine harness and dme.i also understand i cant use the e harness and dme with the I engine swap. i swapped the clusted and dash. but while i had the dash out i noticed the i has alot of differences than the e. so i considered removing all the wiring from the ci and installing it in my E. but if i dont i just wanna know what im going to have to do to make the car run and work properly. i noticed on the I engine harness it has one on two plugins connected to the dme connector that my e didnt have i have not a clue what they do and i dont wanna put the I engine in then have to work around it later when i figure out i have to put the car harness in. thats why im asking what the differences are

I have an 87 e with an I engine. Like I said before all you need to do is put an 87 I or Is wiring harness on the i engine and it will plug and play. Your gauges along with windows will properly work.1988 E30 335i - 1987 E30 327i - 1987 E30 327iS Pickup - 1973 2002 Project

You can use any DME from a 1987 or later 325i/is. I'm not sure about an 87 325e body, but the engine harness from an 88 or later 325i/is may require modification for the engine to start and the tach & econometer to work. And it may be necessary to cut the wire on pin 20 of C101 to avoid burning up the engine harness. The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

You are fucking high! I literally told you twice that you can use a stock wiring harness yet you want to use a wrong wiring harness that will give you problems. Fuck!1988 E30 335i - 1987 E30 327i - 1987 E30 327iS Pickup - 1973 2002 Project

Listen and listen very carefully.
If you use an 87 325i/is/ic engine harness EVERYTHING will plug and play in to your 325e. You will not need to modify ONE wire. There's no catch here, this is a real life fact. You should stop ignoring the good advice Shant has given you.
You can use ANY M20B25 DME with this harness and it will work.
