Bubbles in my oil?
I just noticed this im my coupe. I run 1040 LE oil. It needs to be changed but this is the 1st time ive ever seen this on the dipstick. The coolent looks fine. There is about 170K on the original motor and runs great. Slight leaks here and there but never a drip. I have not pulled any plugs yet to see if there is any gasket leaks between the cylinders. Is there any chance to damage anything?

hmmm, that sounds weird....I'd do an oil change and change the brand and see what you get.sigpic -

Ive been using this oil for 5 years ~50k and this is the first time. A change will prolly be my first step but im just not sure why the bubbles.

ok, well that eliminates that suggestions; have you been driving it much and has the temp changed drastically over the last while. I remember when I would short trips in my 318is my valve cover oil cap would get a yellowish tinge and was told condensation in the cover because I wasn't driving the car long enough. At first I panicked because I thought it was a head gasket leak getting into the oil. But found no such evidence.
I wouldn't worry to much about if you aren't losing coolant or oil and of the obvious....they aren't mixing. Just monitor it.sigpicComment

is this still parked outside? Drive it around to get it hot and check again. If they are still there, you probably have an issue.'87 325ic, powered by S50.Comment

it is probably due to condensation and the type of oil you used. might not have enough detergents etc.Comment

Yeah, still outside. Ive been DDing it but stopped for 2 days ago. After checking something unrelated yesterday, I took it for a spin around the block and decided to check my fluids and there it was.
I have also been running this same oil for about 5 years in a different car all together with no issues.Comment

I've had this before too, tightened all the bolts connecting the oil pan to the block and it went away.
