I'll just put this out, because I'm thinking about it at the moment.
I recently bought a 1991 325ic - it was cheap, because the timing belt had gone and the previous owner had no interest in fixing the car.
After I bought the car I proceeded to remove the head and inspect the damage. Which to my surprise wasn't too bad. One broken rocker and 5 bent exhaust valves. After ordering the parts and quick port and polish.
I borrowed a very expensive straight edge and checked the trueness of the head.
using the information from the head gasket set I measured the imperfections with a feeler gauge.
The info I have says:
Lengthwise no more then 0.03 mm
Laterally no more then 0.05 mm
After letting the straight edge acclimatize to my work shed I started measuring.
Everything is within spec except for one low spot on cylinder #6
Here's the stupid idea:
Should I just lap the valves and install the head or should I send it out to the machine shop?
