    86 325e won't start, help.

My son bought an 86 325e. PO replaced the head (didn't change the TB in time) but the starter went out. We visited, push started and ran fine. Put it on the trailer and hauled it home.
While checking out to install the started, noticed the pipe from the intake manifold to the block was not in properly, so we pulled the intake, replaced the starter and reinstalled the intake with new gaskets.
Now the starter works, but the engine won't run. We get spark, and with starter fluid it will catch and run a few seconds.
Fuel pump is not running, no power. I jumped 30 & 87 at the fuel relay, and the pump runs. Even with it bypassed the engine won't run.
What can the problem be? What tells the pump and the rest of the engine to run? Hell, it ran before we did this little work.
    Please Help!

My guess is that a check for spark will reveal that there isn't any. The absence of spark and fuel pump operation says that the DME isn't getting timing data from the engine, that the DME isn't getting power/ground, or that the DME is bad. The timing data comes from the bell housing mounted timing sensors. make sure that are correctly connected. If the mail relay closes when the ignition is turned on the DME should be getting power, but a check with a voltmeter at the DME connector will tell for certain.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

I get spark, the engine runs with starting fluid. Where do I check the DME?
Good to check it all out anyway.
