smell...

i havent driven my car for a few days, we are in the process of moving and the e30 can hold like 2 boxes, i have been driving my girfriends car. its been sitting in the overflow lot and yesterday i started it and let it warm up for a bit and when i was on my way to school i could smell and odd burny chemically,like someone put coffee on the heatercore smell when i had the defrogger on. i cant smell it when it is off but i can smell it from out side the car. at first i thought maybe its is burning oil about a quart a month, but it has never made this smell be for yesterday.

what could this be?

was the smell sweet? or rotten egg. you'll have to describe it more as it is difficult to tell; it could be drawing it in from the engine bay as you put the fan on like an oil leak from somewhere being burned off. Could be the rocker cover gasket leaking oil onto the exhaust manifold; or it could be coming from inside the cabin if it is your heater core. if it is like a rotten egg that I wouldn't worry about as it can happen time to time.

Had this happen in my last e30. Started to get a burning smell , found it was the defrost , d/c ... few months laster thinkning it would be fine by now i was driving and POP rear window popped and yea it sucked ass. GL




drove home fine soon at my car twisted a lil from going up a drive way everything feel threw.

could just a slight oil leak being burnt, but it really smells like burnt coffee. it is also consuming some coolant, no drips in the drive way but about ever six months i have to put about a quart of antifreeze in

but im talking about the defrogger, like having the air on the windshield

sounds like a leaky heater core or a leak at the heater blend valve.
Check the carpet in the drivers footwell.
