    Rough Start (sometimes)

So, I just picked up my first E30. It is in great shape, but has a really rough start once in a while.

So, the symptoms feel like the fuel is not being delivered to the engine properly for like 5 seconds and the engine is on the verge of stalling and then VROOM, loads of fuel and a quick burst of power.

This does not happen every cold start, nor hot start. It is very odd. It did about a 30 F start just fine the other day and then today, 60 F it did the rough start again. It hardly seems temperature related.

Also, say it has the rough start, but I get it into gear. Drive 10 feet, clutch in and stop, it will ALWAYS start right up fine. Does not matter if I turn engine off or keep it in neutral running, right after it does it, I cannot do it again.

I also had on occasion where I did a cold start with no problems, drove 10 minutes, got gas and then had the rough start when I went to leave the station.

I have no clue what is going on because there is absolutely no consistency in with the situation. Thanks for any help you all might be able to give.

Install an new fule pump and main relay. Then run the fuel system tests in the Bentley manual. Also check the AFM to make sure that the vane isn't sticking.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.
