    starter not engaging

i just recently replaced my whole engine harness because it wasnt the right one.. had a 90 harness on a 87 body nothing lined up now i got a 88 harness in and everything lines up but the starter just spins , on old harness it would engage on flywheel , any ideas the starter was same year as old harness .. came with it "90" ... any help is apreciated .. i noticed that my old eta starter look diff from the 90 starter so could it be the starters match the harness ??

If the starter spins but fails to engage, the cause won't be the harness. For the starter to spin it has to have primary power and start signal. That is all any harness supplies. It rather sounds like the bendix in the starter is bad.

There is a difference in the the starters between 87 and later, but that difference is that the later starters have an unloader switch. Your car doesn't have the unloader circuity so it doesn't matter which starter you use.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.
