    Engine Won't Turn Over

Someone helped me out with my Super Eta build, and after he finished it he started it up and everything ran fine.

Unfortunately, two valves for the same cylinder were ticking so he shut the car off and went back in to fix the issue.

After doing a short valve adjustment, the car cranks but won't start.

    Any pointers?

I don't remember if it will crank, but I remember the first time I did a valve adjust I forgot to connect the ground that goes from the battery tray to the valve cover and it didn't start.

being connected with the one of the same nuts as the cover, I can see how it would be easy to miss.

When an engine cranks, it is turning over.
      Yours won't start.
First perhaps, take a look at the timing belt to make sure it is intact.
I would pull the plugs and turn the engine over using a breaker bar on the crank pulley nut.
Turn the crank slowly and be alert for any *catches* or stiff spots. The ticking may have been bent valves.
When the engine is turning over, does it bump like it wants to start? or does it simply revolve?

have you tried doing what 7pilot recommended?

hopefully you didnt bend a valve.

I did a headgasket on an e34 535i and had the chain skip one tooth,
when the valves were loose and not adjusted, the engine turned over.
When I then adjusted the valves, #6 would catch.

If the engine does turn over by hand 720 degrees without any problems,
Id look into checking spark, and fuel.

If you have no spark, check your crank sensor on your bellhousing to see if
          it is operating correctly.

          Go from there.

If it bumps, then it is getting fuel, fire and air but not necessarily in the correct fashion.
Bumping sometimes indicates that ignition wires may be crossed.
Humor us and double check the ignition wire assignments.
Try tapping the injectors in case they are sticking.

Sorry if it seems like I completely disregarded your tips, I just haven't been able to touch it because it's at the guy's place. Supposedly all valves and timing is fine.

Thanks for the help, I'm supposed to be getting it by the end of the week?..
