My brother and I bought an 89 325i for our first e30 about two months ago. The car is in decent shape other than some major rust under the battery. When we got the car my first priorities were replacing the timing belt, and water pump, changed the oiland filter, flushed and refilled coolant. So anways two weeks ago he was driving when he money shifted, causing the belt to skip some teeth on the cam gear. Last friday I took the head off found three bent valves and a broken rocker arm. Saturday I went to our local hangout pull apart and pulled a head off a m20 525.
Now I know I should have the head checked by the machine shop, but when I pulled it, all the bolts looked very good, and there were recently replaced gaskets on everything (valve, head, exhaust).
This weekend I was planning on checking, cleaning, painting, prepping, the car to put back together. Still have to get my new gaskets and timming belt.
How much of a neccessity is it to get new head bolts?
Does anyone have any suggestions or complaints for what I have done thus far and for my next steps?
