    Screeching Sound

Car recently developed this horrifying screech. When you first start the car and let it idle it's either nonexistent or a very very quiet squeal. As you rev the engine it becomes a very loud piercing screech. Goes away after a few hard revs. If any electrics (lights, stereo, and especially heater/ac blower) are turned on it instantly comes back.

Belts? Pulleys? Alternator bearing? Fan clutch? Not gonna lie I have no idea what I'm doing here. Tried pinpointing it by ear, soapy water on the belts, and blindly spraying wd-40 . Heading home from school this weekend and would like to know what I'm looking for before I start fucking more shit up.

I've seen this before when I was a rookie. Tighten all of your belts. Open and shut case Johnson.

Check your power steering fluid too. If its low, it will cause a drag in the PS pump, and simulate loose belts.

Wait it has to be alternator related since its increases with electrics on right? Belts are all tight and lubing them had no effect. It also sounds more like metal on metal than a slipping belt so probably pulley? I'm going to go pick up a new belt tomorrow and check it out.

          metal on metal screeching? wut

I'm gonna guess it's your alternator belt. if it slips then it will make noise. can you push the belt a significant amount? If you can push it more than like 1/2-3/4" it's probably too loose.
