so one day i was just doin cap rotor plugs nd wires nd wen i went to start it it wouldnt start. so i let off nd tried one more time nd the second time the cranking noise sounded different. idk how to explain it but it just wasnt normal. anyways after some investigating i found that my timing belt had snapped. it wasnt running wen it snapped it broke during starting. so i was wondering if you guys think my valves will be ok nd i should just do a timing belt, tensioner, nd water pump?

Chances are you'll probably still have 2-3 bent valves. -
talke the valve cover off and have someone see if all the rockers and stuff are moving okay when you try to start?
i wouldnt advise doing that more than once though, with a broken timing belt. in fact, im not sure id recommend it at all, youre better off pulling the head and making sure. more often than not, the head will be cracked somewhere. but you mightve gotten lucky since the engine was cold and just starting

If the timing belt broke, the rockers aren't going to move when you crank the engine and doing so will just increase the damage.talke the valve cover off and have someone see if all the rockers and stuff are moving okay when you try to start?

If the engine was turning when the belt broke, even just by the starter, there will almost certianly be some bent valves. Pull the head, tear it down, and repair as indicated.Last edited by jlevie; 03-15-2011, 08:07 AM.The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.
