Odd oil leak..oil on exhaust manifold..

Dunno what this is. I added oil to my car cause the dipstick was showing very little (oil pan gasket leak). I let the car run for a little and the engine was smoking a little and smelled like oil.
    What could this be?
I just put in a new head with new HG and torx bolts.

your cam seals are leaking or valve cover gasket. FYI you are missing your front engine hoist mount. thats what you have a space between the Tbelt shield and head. you can f up your cap and rotor if you dont fix that.
    Much wow

Valve cover gasket likely...cam seals..I don't really think so. head has 80k on it and is in awesome condition. if it is the cam seal I'd rather just leave it..I'm not pulling my head again for the 4th time in 4 months to take the cam out and the seal.

And yesss, I already F'd up my other cap like that. Only like that temporarily though.

i second that. the oil is on the header which is above the head gasket so its obv. not that. Valve cover gasket? Nice thumbnail pic. my buddy just sent me that god awful music video.

I don't see how the valve cover gasket would leak oil onto the manifold though..there's a heat shield there that blocks that....?

cleaned out the valve cover, gasket, and the part of the head where it mates and then put a good coat of RTV on it and now I'm waiting for it to cure to tighten it down...hopefully that's the problem cause I have to drive this car to philly on saturday.

u dont have to remove the heads to replace ur camseal, just clean it up an put a piece of napkin right under camseal sits, and see what happens. if the napkin gets wet with oil u already now

you spilled oil on it? I've done that and looked for hours for a leak. happened because I spilled a little while filling up.(and you said you topped off the oil)

I really hope its not my Cam seal argh. What would that require me to do? Pull the timing cover and cam gear? How'd I'd take it out?

kamotors, I hope I didn't, that would be silly if I did and I'm going crazy about it. I didn't let it run long enough to find out since it started to smell like oil.

I used to have an M10 engine that leaked oil down the thread of the exhaust manifold bolt. Looked similar.

Could try some locktite on the bolt after cleaning it up.
