    325I VS 325E RPM Help....

Hi guys, finally just test drove the 1987 325IC that I bought at Christmas with a blown eng. I purchased a rust bucket 325IC 1989 with a good donor mtr, did the swap including the 87 intake to keep things simple. Hit the key, runs great. So I just booted it on the beach road. My Tachometer red lines at 4500 and only goes to 5K. @ 4500 it shut down and I had to shift. Is there a rev limiter in these things? I checked my data I do have a 325I.... I thought I could wind it higher......Runs great, no lights, love this thing! Thanks, John in NH where soon I will be driving with the top down.

That swap should have included the engine complete with intake, exhaust, AFM, wiring harness, and DME. Is that what you did?

Sounds like you just have the wrong tach in the car since both of your cars have the i engine.

Yes I went from a 1988 325IC into an 87 325IC and used my intake manifold, exhaust, oil pan and a few other bits. Vehicle wiring harness stayed the same. I am curious why it won't tach up higher. Its obviously got the wrong tack, next winters project along with a new dash. It kicks out though at 4500 rpm very odd...

The 5k tach would be one from a 325e. If you bought the car with a blown engine, it is possible that some prior owner may have swapped in the tach, engine, etc from an ETA. Check the DME and see what is in the car.

How do I check the DME? I know for a fact that they engine I put in is a 325I so would changing the DME for an E car to and I car do the trick? Did theyy ever make a 325E Cabrio?
