FUEL ISSUE? starts only if you go full throttle.

I'm looking at buying a 90 325is off of a friend. The car drove fine for a few months then it started giving issues where it would just die out randomly and would give it gas to get it running. Then one day it just wouldn't start unless you floor the gas as it seems its dumping gas. It missfires horribly the whole time its barely running.
Here's the dilema. I'm looking at buying it since its clean. I have a feeling it might be the fuel pressure regulator but since I don't have the car I can't really test it.

Is it possible the regulator went bad and could be sucking gas back through the vaccum(sp) line? I'm not very knowledgeable of m20s moreso of my m42.

    Any ideas???

That could be intake leaks or a fuel delivery problem.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.
