    Car wont accelerate! Help!

I have an 88 325i. I just recently rebuilt the motor from head up. I started it up and it wont accelerate. It acts like its gonna die. My rpm gauge isn't working also. Can somebody please help me? Thanks.

Sorry to be broad, but you need to be checking the fuel pressure to see if it is within spec, check to see if the cat. is clogged, and for vac. leaks. That is where I would start at least

You could have dying fuel pump or some fuel system problem that is starving the engine for fuel. Run the fuel system tests in the Bentley. And double check to make sure the cam timing is correct.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

A clogged fuel filter could also do this (although I have never come across it in my mechanical experience) which would put a lot of load on the fuel pump. It is an easy/cheap enough job.

                  One cannot say for sure.

If it is running lean, then the engine can be damaged
If it is running rich, then the engine can be damaged

It doesn't take much driving of a poorly running car to accumulate carbon deposits, foul the O2 sensor and foul the cat.

I had a car that ran extremely rich once, started bogging down, and the inside of the muffler caught fire. There must have been a thin spot/hole in the top of the muffler because flames were coming out of it and into contact with the composite fuel tank. Not a fun situation. I am not saying that that will happen to you, but It happened to me and the resuts could have been REALLY bad if I had not found water/some immigrant workers beverages to extinguish it with :P
