    Simple Question. Please Answer.

I have an 88 325i. I just rebulit it from the head up. I went outside to start it up and I heard a tickin noise in the head. Its in time. Should I adjust my valves again or what? Thanks.

Did you adjust them first time yourself? gaped them correctly? M20s are supose to tick a bit but not much, won't hurt to readjust and check again.

did you see any unusual wear ? sometimes if you don't tighten the bolts after gapping they might not hold the accentric wheel in it's place, in either case won't hurt to take the cover off and check again, and tighten the bolts an all of the rocker arms, any engine is noisier when cold , it all depends on how noisy????
also make sure the two nuts at the end of the oiling bar above the camshaft are tight and ,
you can check and see if the oil comes out of the holes above the cams by starting the engine without the valve cover for a short burst and see if oil is flowing out , have a friend start it for a couple of seconds and you can see it, if there is no oil comming out then the libne is dirty, remove it and clean it.

If you hold a long screwdriver to your ear, hold it on the valve cover, and go down the valve cover you should hear the rocker/ss that are loud, you can do the same one the oil pan listinging for rod knock

if you had the head rebuild and the valves were done right after(before starting) they need to get readjusted after about 20-50 miles. and needed to heat up and then settle into place.

RPM for the tak comes off the #6 spark plug wire. and that plugs into the harness, right under the OBD inspection port.
                  Much wow

I fixed everything except the rpm gauge. Can you explain a lil bit more please?

Tach signal comes from the DME.
Sometimes the connection from behind the instrument cluster, can loosen.
Second, the instrument cluster has a couple of batteries soldered to a circuit board. When these batteries fail, a symptom is an inoperative tach.
