    Smog help (with numbers)

    Trying to pass the dreaded CA smog with my 325i, and naturally I failed pretty bad and am now a gross polluter.

    Here are the numbers:

    HC
    MAX - MEAS

    This is with a new O2 sensor, tune up, new ignition parts, valves adjusted, etc. The oil might have a little bit of gas in it from some testing of the injectors I did but is otherwise new as of a couple weeks ago.

    During the smog check, the heater decided to start leaking really bad, so I had coolant smoke pouring thru the dash vents. The car didn't overheat, or even really get much hotter than normal, but it did happen. It was pretty embarrassing.

    Since taking the test, I had the cat replaced and found a bunch of exhaust leaks, so I had the exhaust replaced too.

    Anything else I should check? I know the new cat will help a lot...

    i just did a smog check too

    that day I installed new plugs and did an oil change (already has new cap,rotor,wires)
    cleaned the piston tops of carbon build up a few months ago when I did a head gasket.

      Well, replaced the cat and found that the exhaust was shot and leaking in several places, so replaced everything from the converter back.

      Took it to smog the next day and passed with these numbers:

      HC (PPM)
      MAX MEAS
      108 108
      83 73


      CO (%)
      MAX MEAS
      .71 .13
      .40 .12

      NO (PPM)
      MAX MEAS
      767 384
      706 182

      So everything was cool, except that HC was right at the limit. Should I do anything about the HC - does that indicate some kind of issue w/ my engine?
