Intermittant stalling and occasional no start

Ok, so I've got a "new" 91 325 auto. Bought in January with a broken timing belt. Replaced the head with a refreshed one, all new gaskets, t-belt, water pump, etc. Ran perfect for about 2-3 weeks. Then out of no where it stumbled at idle one day. Threw it in neutral and brought the rpms up and all was good. Let it idle for a while after and no issues. Then ~2 days later, same thing happened. The next time I went to start it, it took 2 long attempts to get it going. Just cranked and cranked but wouldn't catch. It finally did and ran great, no issues. Weird right? Well I drove it ~15minutes, turned it off for ~2 minutes, went to restart and it wouldn't. Same thing, cranked and cranked but nothing. If I put the pedal down, it cranked faster, but still nothing. I tried ~10-15 times and got no where. After letting it sit for ~10minutes, it started right up, ran fine, no issues.

This happened a few times, but it's started up quicker. I then swapped in a known good icv and afm, and it was good for ~2 weeks. It has now stumbled and stalled 3 times in the last 2 days. It's pissing me off, mainly because I cannot tell when it will happen. It is so random and unexpected I cannot duplicate it when I have the time or tools to figure out what's wrong.

The only thing that definitely is common with everything, is that the engine is warmed up, and its above ~60degrees outside.

I am at a loss. Does anyone have any ideas at all?

First things first, the car in your sig is my favorite early model e30.

Test the idle switch on the underside of the throttle body (some people call it the TPS) . If your idle switch is not engaging then your ECU won't know that it is supposed to run the idle maps and it will have a tough time idling and starting (I had this problem on another car and it would sometimes require throttle to get it started)

In case you need info on how to do that,

I believe its terminals 2 and 18 for the idle circuit. you should get continuity with the car off and throttle closed.

Give that a test and report back.

Also check your CPS ohm resistance. Just went through a no start issues. Was the CPS.

I'd also recommend temporarily attaching a gaue to the fuel rail to see what the pressure is when the engine is misbehaving.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.
