    M20 block machining questions

I was wondering if or when it's necessary to do a line bore or line hone on the main journal surfaces of the block and caps. Also Is it common or needed to machine the surface area on the bottom of the block as well?

Or just put the original size new bearings in, plastigauge it and see?

Why would you need to line bore an m20? If you had to run a oversized bearing you would need to get the crank ground to the bearing size. I'm not really sure what you are even asking.

It's not a model A. You never need to line bore an m20

Euro engines seem to be made of better quality steel then your average american engine. They stand up to a lot of abuse without issues. More then likely, you don't need to line bore it, but there isn't really a way to know it's good unless you do. I personally wouldn't bother with it, you should be fine.

Yeah ok, so at a minimum just use new bearing shells then, yes?

Alright, I meant LINE HONE, not line bore, my bad. Robert on e30tech hooked me up with some info.
