And most here would say don't even waste your time with an M50NV.

If this is your everyday car, no plans to track/AutoX or antyhing, I'd actually look at putting in an M42 with a few mods.

I really miss my M42 car.

Well everyone is entitled to their own opinion. The motor comes with more hp from the factory, runs off MAF, and is set up for much larger potential down the road if he wants to modify it. Bang for buck, he will see more out of it. All that said, he wouldn't have much more money into it than an m20 done right. And by done right, I mean refreshing the seals, fluids, and replacing worn out parts... Not just slapping it in there.

I'm going to the yard today to see what I can find...at this point...I'm going to jump on the cleanest engine/trans I can find...be it an m50 or an m42...or hell even an m10. I am daily driving the car, and down the road I would love to run a small turbo on what ever setup I end up going with. But I'm also a noob in the swap dept. Hell I've never even rebuilt/pulled an engine. Shouldn't be that hard... lol

^It really isn't, take your time, take some pics, label appropriately and you shouldn't have too many problems.

Again a big thanks to everyone that has given their input. It's all been very informative, and has been pushing me in the right direction. I currently have a line on a complete m50 set-up...I should know more about that tomorrow. And it's local. Which is a plus...I also found a complete m42 up in PA...but that's a long drive from GA lol. So I guess we will see....BUM BUM BUMMM

Holy hell I would never pay a grand for an m10...you can find a decently low mileage m42 for half that.

I can find an M20B25 for less than $300, but it will be a high mileage engine. I'd rather pay a bit more ($500-600) and get an engine with less than 150k on it.
You're wrong in both departments there. It's a pick and pull, take it yourself. It was a clean M50 with 90k miles. My second m50 I paid 300 for, unknown miles but known good condition, bought it from a friends parent's BMW shop.

M50 should make you very happy. You could always drop in an S50 as well down the road if you want to.

Pm me if you want to buy my M10. Low miles, needs tuneup, but runs great.

m50 will rock your world after an m10. if you have one lined up do it!
there are a lot of resources here and other places on the net to help you get it done.
