    e vs i clutch

Are the e and i clutch interchangeable? I know the i clutch has springs in it but the e doesn't. Can an e clutch be used on an i motor with a single-mass flywheel?

You generally sacrifice streetability (smooth engagement) using an unsprung-hub clutch on a single mass flywheel. There's gotta be a little give somewhere.

It's going on our LeMons racecar so our only concern is really rev-matching on downshifts and the like. If it's too rough on engagement we could end up upsetting the car, which would suck going in to a corner.

I don't think the lack of springs is going to be a problem on up/down shifts. Though moving the car in 1st & reverse might be a bit rough.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Aside from coming on and off the track, we're never in first. We're hoping to just bring the eta clutch disc for a spare.

Though not explictly stated, that was my point.

I ran my single mass with an unsprung e clutch disc. As was already stated, first and reverse are less forgiving, but it grips just fine.
