Will any 325i M20 from 87-91 work as a donor for my 87 325is?

I am looking for a new motor and wonder if any year will work or were there some changes that will make the swap better or worse with certain years. Thanks.

You can use an M20B25 from any 325i or 325is. You can even use an M20B25 from an early E34 325i, though the dispstick will be need to be changed over and you'll want to use the oil pan from the old engine.

The only difference that would matter is water pump. 87 is different than 88+. Swaps right over though.
