I pressed the accelerator 5 times after turning the key, nothing happens, the light just stays on. Tried about 10 times. I've even ran my VIN to make sure my car really was an '88 and that the gov society didn't have the wrong year associated with my car.

So now that test doesn't work... What now?

Your idle seems fine in the in car video. I would check for vacume leaks, adjust the valves, re-do the timing belt/ tensioner, replace all plugs, and change the oil.

It seems that your idle is a little high, from what i can tell through the video. My guess is Vacuum leaks and if there is black smoke present upon giving throttle, it must be running rich. I would start with cleaning up the ICV and throttle body first just because you should anyways, then move onto testing all the sensors and FI. The hard start could be just because your plugs may be old, but idk the condition of them so i cant say. As far as the throttle lag goes, correct me if im wrong, but i think every e30 has a slight throttle lag if you blip the throttle like that. I know mine does that if i blip it. But definitely check for vacuum leaks and test every engine management sensor because those can really make your car screwy. Oh and seafoam that shit too!!
