M20b27 wont run my wifes car

so it only runs on like 5 cylinders until it warms up. but now it completly cuts out. i smell fuel so i dont think its starving for fuel. it also backfires
Ive changed the sparkplugs.
can it be the crank position sensor? throw out some suggestions

Sounds like spark timing or consistency is off. That would explain the fuel smell and backfiring.

Could be dme. Check ur spark plugs see if any are fouled. Is it backfiring through the intake?
