Hello, i've got a 323i which i want to convert to an motronic. Has anyone ever done a motronic conversion before, if so what is involved? also a list of parts needed would be great!
I'm a little confused here, i've got a full aftermarket Microtech computer (similar to megasquirt) and a complete motronic harness here. What should i use?
Haha thanks, you posted my thread up with no replies from anyone.
Ok turns out I didn't miss anything when I listed the parts for the conversion.
What you will need to do since you have an early shape e30 you will have to get the other side of the body harness plug from the later car called the c101 (round plug) and cut and splice to match the wires for your early model square plug. The diagrams of the two plugs is in the second link court m3 posted.
If you want to run a standalone like the microtech you might aswell convert to motronic its updated fuel and ignition system should allow the standalone to control fuel and spark better.
My advice also when you start adding the prices of the parts on the list it gets expensive I just bought a e34 525i donar car costing me $700 with its full motronic harness 885 head and an eta block I had lying around.

Sourcing parts isn't a problem.
If i use the microtech then there's no use converting it to a motronic, i can use the original distributor pick up for my timing. I'm building a very powerful n/a m20 and i only wanted a motronic to use the miller/war chip but i asked around and many people prefer the microtech because using a miller/war chip is just tricking the computer to add more fuel and get better air flow whereas with the mircotech you can adjust your fuel mixtures, timing, timing curves throughout the revs and much more.
