I have an 88 325i rebuilt from the head up with new gaskets new relays and new fuel.filter and fuel pump plus alot more upgrades. The car is throwing a check engine light but it won't throw me a code. When the car idles right it throws a check engine light but sometimes it'll idle up to 1200 and there wont be a check engine light. There is no vaccuum leaks. When I go outside in the morning it is hard to start up sometimes, but once o get it started it runs fine until it sits for a while and then its hard to start again. If you have any knowledge on what is goin on with my car, I ask that you will please tell me. Thanks.

The stomp test not working strongly suggests a bad or mis-adjusted TPS. The idle problems could be that, or a sticky ICV, or intake leaks. You say there aren't any, but unless you have hd a smoke test run you can't make that assertion. The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

The first thing I'd do would be to disconnect the DME and check the resistance of the ECT circuit from the DME connector and then compare that to the resistance as measured at the ECT. If those are different there is a problem in the harness. The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Using the wiring diagrams for you car from http://wedophones.com/BMWManualsLead.htm and a DMM you can do the test I suggested. The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.
