    Too much oil, BAD?

I'm troubleshooting the seepage that I have coming form the Oil Pressure/Level Sensor on top of the Oil Pan. Additionally, I see some stuff coming down from the PCV pipe on the side of the block.

I'm getting the OIL LIGHT on the check panel and I'm wondering of too much oil might be causing these leaks and the Oil light on the panel. I already reset the SI lights and the oil one stays on.

I pulled the dipstick and see that I'm almost up to the top line.

What to do.. Drain some oil and reevaluate?

Is there a way to ensure that the Oil Level sensor is good?

    Thanks in advance!

The oil light is coming from the faulty Oil Level sensor that's leaking. Replace the sensor. If it's leaking you need to pull it anyways to fix, so just replace it. Same with the PCV pipe too, it's probably brittle and not sealing correctly anymore.

      Thanks Bro,

I'm compiling a list of hoses/pipes to order from Pelican next week..

Is the Oil Level Sensor a part I can get from another M20, or should I just fork out the 150.00 for a new one? Funds are tiiiiight..

You could snag one from another m20, but as always with used parts, the working condition of it is unknown.

Are you talking about the oil level light above by the sunroof, the oil pressure square light on the cluster, or the oil service light in the inspection bar on the cluster?

Its not really clear which light you are referring to. Resetting your SI lights has nothing to do with the oil level sensor on the check panel. Common fault is the signal wire from the sensor wearing thin and grounding out along the front of the motor.

if your oil level is full and the check panel light is on, then the sensor is bad.

too much oil can be bad, and will leak out. replace the sensor with a new one. putting in an old part is like having your part before it went bad....you never know when it's going to go bad. buy a new one and be done with that one for another 10-20 years. it's common sense right?

but please confirm it's not the oil level sensor.

The Oil Light by the sunroof. There is no light on the Cluster coming on that has to do with oil. I already reset my SI lights and still the light comes on. I did notice some seepage around the oil level sensor.. We'll see..

As I stated, that light has nothing to do with your inspection lights.

I would say that 90% of the people that track or race their e30's run a quart over full, the amount of oil is not your issue. Get a new sensor or pull the idiot light and be done with it.
