My alternator on my cabby (10/87 build 325i convertible) went out, so I bought a new replacement from autozone and ripped the old one out.
I ripped the fan assembly off the old alternator and forgot the order of the parts
I tried my best using the diagram on RealOEM ( http://realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?...21&hg=12&fg=22 ) to put it back together but when i got everything on the car and started it it makes this awful metal on metal sound.
My new alternator came with the following parts:
#20 - lock nut
#21 - crush washer
and the alternator fully assembled
But I had to reuse #19 (the pulley, which isn't really a pulley but 2 separate half circle pieces that create a pulley) and #18 the fan blade.
I also had 3 different washers from my old alternator. which don't seem to show up on the RealOEM diagram. I tried my best to find where each went but I think the order that i put them back in is the issue.
Does anyone have an e30 alternator out of the car that could take a picture of all the pieces in the correct order? I really don't want to take the car into the shop to have them do a full replacement, right after I did all of it.
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
