1985 325e only runs in crank postion

When the car is held in the crank position the car will run great. The second its let all the way back to the on position it will die. Is the cylinder worn out? Time for a push to start?

Sounds like the tumbler is worn out. Or possibly the red connector on the back of the ignition switch. That could have pushed off of the switch when you bring it back to the on position. There are two little ears that hold that connector onto the switch. When mine broke, it would start then never turn off. i had to pull the battery cable. I don't think push to start will solve your problem but I guess you could try it if you figure out whether your key switch is good or not.

That is probably a bad ignition switch, not the lock tumbler.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.
