    2.7i head gasket question

Reading my fresh Bently manual, it mae a reference to having 2 different types of gaskets. One stamped on the flange 2.7 for the seta, e, and es. The other having a 2.5 stamping for the i, is, and vert. This use to be done on the earlier models, which one whole be most appropriate?

Since I'm on the topic... Most heads that are removed will more than likely need to be machined a max of 3mm and bmw makes a replacement gasket to compensate for this specification lost. Does anyone know reputable brands that provide this?

    Cometic is a great option.

Cometic IS an option, but be warned that both surfaces have to be 110% clean and flat or else they will leak. And even then, they might leak. Ask me how I know.

eta, seta, i, is, are all the same bore so they use the same head gasket. However, if you're doing the 2.7i swap I would buy a 325i top end gasket kit. Don't worry about getting a thicker gasket, I doubt the machine shop will have to shave it down that much.

A Cometic MLS gasket is too expensive and totally not necessary.

OP, you can use any M20 replacement head gasket. There is absolutely no need to use the thicker gasket for your application.

IE sells either the MLS (don't buy) or a stock replacement. There is no "IE gasket".

              Go with a Goetze
